GENEVA (Reuters) – The very best N’t human rights official Michelle Bachelet said on Wednesday that her office is seeking entry to China's Xinjiang region to be sure of "worrying reports" of re-education camps holding Uighurs along with other Muslim minorities.

China rejects criticism of the actions in Xinjiang, on the grounds that it protects the religion and culture of minorities, and therefore its safety measures are necessary to combat the influence of "extremist" groups that incite violence there.

"I am requesting direct access to the region as a way to check and verify the worrying reports we’re also receiving," Bachelet told a news conference in Geneva.
